JERRY'S BLOG
After Eden Prairie beat Duluth East 3-2 in triple overtime, I received more than two hundred emails and phone calls from people who watched the championship game saying it was the best championship game ever.
How about the class Duluth East Coach Mike Randolph speaking to the Eden Prairie team after the game! He talked about the respect he had for Kyle Rau and other players who stayed in high school instead of leaving for Juniors early. They that were the best team.
Class AA announcer Lou Nanne came down to the locker room after the championship game to congratulate both coaches on the game. By the way, Lou has been announcing the championship game for 47 years and normally does not come downstairs after the game.
There has been great support during the State Tournament for Duluth East senior Rachel Sandell, who has liver cancer and is receiving treatment in Reno, Nevada. The Duluth East Hockey team dedicated the tournament to her, and all the students and parents held placards saying, "We Love Rachel." The Duluth East dance team member was receiving support from different sections at the Xcel Center with chants "We Love Rachel." Now the whole hockey community is showing its support. Good Luck, Rachel. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and may you make a complete recovery. You can reach Rachel at caringbridge.org/visit/rachelsandell
Gopher fans cannot be happy with the Men's team not making the NCAA Tournament for the 3rd season in a row. With talk of extending Coach Don Lucia's contract and Defenseman Aaron Ness leaving early by signing with the New York Islanders, I will be curious how the fans react.
